We chatted about Yes, and he gave me some pretty fresh news. He talked to Alan White on the phone last week, and according to him: * The new album is almost complete. They have five songs completely done, with a sixth not far behind. (Given that one of these tunes is supposed to be 15 minutes long, that just about makes a whole album.) * Victory Records is "getting up [Yes'] ass" to get the album out in November. * The members of the band are very interested in being one of the first bands out on tour in 1994. So the projected date that Alan White said of maybe March doesn't seem too farfetched. * There was mention of Yes possibly doing a few shows before the release of the album to rehearse for the tour. Sites mentioned were Vancouver, Barbados (Jon's idea), and South America. * The advance word is that the new album is "really really hot". I'm beginning to look forward to it more and more... Now if they don't delay it 5 million times like it usually happens........ -- Robert =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ABWH RIPOFFS ============ From: IN%"sharth26@ursa.Calvin.EDU" "Steven P Harthorn" Greetings! Much ado has been made in NFTE about the "commercialism" of the Squire/Rabin/White/Kaye side of Yes. But really...look at the ripoffs produced by the ABWH bunch! First...ABWH, the album, for which nobody recorded at the same time! Don't get me wrong, there's some great music there, but none of the classic interplay that created true Yes music. The Union tour/album? Everone's got their opinions on that...hmm. Bill was pretty much there for the bread, though, it seems. But this Symphonic Yes album--it really takes the cake!! No ground-breaking material, just orchestrated oldies, muzak by Yes, as it were. Ugh! Just a way to cash in on the past. This from our "virtuoso" side of Yes... I also noted on the Yesoteric tapes a proliferation of rarities from the ABWH side of things (esp. Steve Howe) but a lack of rarities from Kaye (Badger, Flash, Detective), Peter Banks (Two Sides, Bloodwyn Pig, etc), Trevor Rabin (his first three solo albums). Pity. Ok, enough griping. I'm looking forward to the new album and I believe the enthusiasm of the band is really going to show. This IS a group that interacts and plays very well together! Also, I'm hoping for good stuff from Chris Squire. I think he's someone who, as Rick said, comes to the forefront when necessary. Look at what he did on the Drama tour--unbelievable work! The Chris Squire Experiment was also great from a songwriting and performance perspective. I think he's someone who needs to rise to a challenge, and I think he will do this on the new album. Also, I'm glad the group will try to concentrate on new material for the tour. Yes moves on again! :) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- YES' GREATEST HITS ================== From: IN%"mcglincj@bcvms.bc.edu" "Joe McGlinchey" Walked into the store. Picked it up. Put it down. Walked out of the store. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- PATRICK MORAZ ============= From: IN%"mcglincj@bcvms.bc.edu" "Joe McGlinchey" Does anyone have any new information about the new Patrick Moraz album (I think it's called "Sacrifices")? He's one of the greatest (keyboardists) in my opinion. In fact, as one who took classical piano for seven years, I would even say that he may possibly be more versatile than Wakeman (not to rag on Rick-who could?). They would be really great working together- great technique and complementing styles. I've always thought that while Rick opted for the cool, "Medieval" sound, Patrick brought Yes an almost sci-fi, futuristic sound. P.S. I'm glad he left the Moodies (at least, in their present state). Did anyone hear "Keys to the Kingdom"? Horrible... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- GRAND SCHEME, STEVE'S BEST? =========================== From: IN%"mcglincj@bcvms.bc.edu" At the risk of incurring extreme disagreement, I sincerely believe that GSoT is the best Steve Howe solo album I've heard. "Desire Comes First"-great interplay between Steve and Anna Palm "Valley of Rocks"&"Passing Phase"-much more engaging than something like "Masquerade", off of Union "Beautiful Ideas"- IMHO, one of the best songs he's written in a while. "Georgia's Theme"- beautiful beautiful beautiful!!! It was also a pleasant surprise to notice what good musicians his sons were! Maybe they and Adam Wakeman will take the helm one day! I have heard several criticisms that the songs were "too short" or "not extended enough", but I think that's kind of silly. As if EVERY song from EVERY Yes member has to be at least ten minutes in length for it to be good! Let's not forget "We Have Heaven", "Five Percent for Nothing", and "Yesterday and Today", folks! Joe McGlinchey Boston College =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- FROM THE EDITOR =============== As you can see this is a rather short issue. I put it out due to the lead article. Traffic is down again. Hopefully this will change as the new album nears. Let's hope Victory is successful in getting some movement from Yes. We've lost our New England duplicator for the Yesoteric tapes. If you wish to assume this position let me know and I'll help put you in touch with the proper person. I'm sure most of you got the unsubscribe message a few weeks ago. I apoligize for that. I didn't shut down nfte@seq after #77 went out and an inexperienced user got one through. I'll also take this opportunity remind those of you who are relatively new subscribers to please NEVER send ANYTHING to nfte@seq.cms. uncwil.edu it WILL go to everyone on the list if I haven't turned the list off. I and millions [ ;-) ] of subscribers thank you.
